Calcination Kilns of Lucainena de las Torres
Stone kilns lined with refractory brick, built in 1900 to roast iron ore from the Sierra Alhamilla before transporting it by train to Agua Amarga, 36 km away, for shipment to northern Europe; each processed 50 tonnes a day. Eight remain, one restored in 2006, beside the end of the old mining railway. A lovely walk to understand the village’s mining past.
